Vero Beach - Week 1 (2014-03-02)

Tonight finds us one week into our stay in Vero Beach.  Looks like a second week is in the works.

This place is definitely living up to its "Velcro" reputation.  We're finding it quite comfortable to stay here.  The weather has been pretty good to us as well, with most days being nice and warm, and of the little rain we've had, most has fallen at night, and not impacted on our day to day activities.

We've been riding the buses quite a bit, both heading to the beach as well as into the city.  We've travelled a couple times to the Indian River Mall.  Lots of shops to window shop at, a food court and a TGI Fridays to tempt the palate.  There's also an AMC theatre there, with about 20 different movies showing.  Even better is that the movies are only $4.00 for showtimes before 4.00pm.  We ended up watching Gravity on one day, and then we were back for Dar's birthday to watch Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit after a lunch at TGI Friday.  I suspect we'll be back for another movie next week, although I'm not sure which one we'll go for next.

We went to the weekly farmer's market down near the beach yesterday.  Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, breads and pastries, and it seems like every third vendor was selling fresh orange juice.

I managed to get a couple jobs done on the boat that I wanted to take care of.  The house bank batteries were due for a check and water top up, and everything looked good with them.  I also changed the oil in the generator.  I'm hoping that I'll be able to get to changing the oil in the boat's engine next week as well, as it's due.

Another item on my list to get to is to take care of writing up some 'project update' blog posts.  I've had a few people ask how things are going with the composting toilet that I built, so I'll do up a post with an update on that.  I've also got some boat tech posts in the works, so I'll see if I can't hammer out a few blog posts this coming week.

Like I said earlier, we're looking at spending another week here enjoying this place.  After that we'll continue northward, first to Cocoa, and then to New Smyrna Beach, where we hope to spend a few days.  I've been keeping a close eye on the weather and temperatures in Georgia and South Carolina, and I'm hoping that it will be warm enough to head up into Georgia around the third week of March.  Hopefully we can bring spring with us as we make our way north up the ICW in April and May. :-)

We're on the second last mooring - nice and peaceful out here

Busy dinghy dock
Path with spanish moss hanging from the trees
Pelican gang waiting for handouts at the boat ramp near the marina
