Tonight finds us at anchor near Palm Bay, having managed to escape the grip of Velcro Beach!
Well actually, to be honest, we were pretty reluctant to leave Vero Beach. Our second week here was as good as our first. We made another trip to the beach, took in another movie (Monuments Men this time), and I took care of some more tasks on the boat.
This past week we got to meet another cruising couple whose blog we have been following. On Thursday I received an email from Rob and Serena on S/V Vita. They're from Trenton, and left Canada last year on their Bayfield 29, headed, like us, for the Bahamas. They had just returned to the US from the Bahamas, and were also in Vero Beach on a mooring ball. We all got together in the Marina lounge on Friday morning.
In the 'Small World' category, Rob is also retired from the Canadian military, and was the same trade as I was (ATIS - Aerospace Technical Information Systems technician) when he retired! The four of us spent most of Saturday together, hitting the farmer's market in the morning, and a few stores in the mall in the afternoon. Saturday night we had them over to September Dream for sundowners. They'll be heading north through Florida over the next couple weeks at about the same pace that we will, so we're expecting our paths to cross a fair bit. Tomorrow night we will probably be sharing an anchorage near Cocoa with them, and then sundowners will be over on Vita.
Tomorrow morning we'll head out for another short day, stopping at Cocoa. We're looking at being in New Smyrna by the end of the week, where we're hoping to spend a few days reacquainting ourselves with the town we've visited previously on two separate winter vacation trips.
