New Smyrna Beach, FL (2014-03-15)

N29° 01.548', W80° 55.161'

Tonight we are tied to the free city dock in New Smyrna Beach.

We arrived in New Smyrna Beach yesterday afternoon, and grabbed a spot on the northern of the two free city docks, right behind our friends on S/V Vita, who had travelled here from Cocoa on Wednesday.

The storm blew in fairly strong in Cocoa Wednesday afternoon, as expected, but luckily there wasn't much of a thunderstorm, just strong winds and lots of rain.  Thursday the winds howled in the morning, but by the afternoon the conditions had calmed enough that we could travel in to the dinghy dock and spend some time in town.

Friday was a great travel day, warm but with a bit of a brisk breeze from the east.  This made the wide open section of the ICW south of Titusville a bit lumpy, with 1 foot waves hitting us on the beam for most of the morning.  The water settled down nicely after we passed Titusville though, and the rest of the day was quite comfortable.

After visiting with Rob and Serena for a bit, Dar and I had some supper and then headed off for a walk, checking out some of the nearby shops before sunset.

This morning Rob and Serena joined Dar and I and we all went to check out the Saturday morning farmer's market in a park about 3 blocks north of the city dock.  We left with a couple bags of fresh veggies, fruit and a nice loaf of bread.

After the farmer's market S/V Vita left the dock bound for Daytona Beach.  We're going to spend one more night on the free dock.  There's a pretty good storm forecasted to hit on Monday, so we're trying to decide if we'll head further north up the ICW, or just find a nice anchorage in New Smyrna Beach to wait out the weather.
