St Augustine FL (2014-03-16)

N29° 53.731', W81° 18.601'

Tonight finds us safely tied to a mooring ball in St Augustine, ready for whatever Mother Nature is going to toss our way tomorrow! :-)

We had looked at a couple anchorages in New Smyrna Beach to wait out the coming storm, but in the end decided to continue working our way north on the ICW.

We had originally thought to anchor out near Fort Matanzas on the Matanzas River, but when we got there I wasn't happy with the anchorage for the conditions we were supposed to be getting tomorrow.  We pressed forward and looked at a couple other anchorages, but in the end we decided to go to the St Augustine Marina and pick up one of their mooring balls for a couple days.  While this added a few more miles to our day, we were okay with that as we had wanted to visit St Augustine again, having enjoyed our first brief visit on our way south.

There were quite a few interesting boats here.  This first was on a mooring ball in the south mooring field.

Mainship 34 Mk-I - probably 1978-79

This tall-ship was tied to the outer dock of the marina.

This schooner was just taking out a group of tourists as we were getting ourselves settled on our mooring ball.

We spotted this beautiful ketch as we were heading in to the marina office to register.  A simply stunning boat, but oh my, thats a lot of wood to keep up!

This was also in the marina.  Interesting looking ship, but I suspect it's a bit more touristy replica than actual sailing ship.

Of course, no photo op is ever passed up.  After registering we went for a short walk and took this picture of September Dream out on the mooring ball in the north mooring field.

We're all set to hunker down for the storm that's supposed to roll through tomorrow.  We are hopeful that we'll have an opportunity to get off the boat and get some laundry done, and maybe even another walk.  We're paid up until Tuesday morning, but we might extend that a day or two to get some more sight-seeing in before we leave here.
