A Week at Green Turtle Cay (2014-01-25)

Our initial stay of a couple days at Leeward Yacht Club on Green Turtle Cay ended up extending to a week.  We should be back on the move tomorrow though.

This is a very nice marina, but even though the facilities are sufficient, it's more about the people here.  The ambiance here reminds us a lot of our home marina back in Kemptville.

There are 4 other Canadian boats here in the marina, and usually at least another 3 most of the time out in the harbour on mooring balls.  It's been a lot of fun getting to know the other Canadians here.  Most of them keep their boats here year round, storing them for the summer at the Abacos Yacht Services boatyard, and then launching them to cruise through the Abacos for the winter.

We've also done a lot of walking on the island since we've been here, heading to the beach on the eastern shore a couple times, as well as walking up to the Green Turtle marina in White Sound yesterday.  We even joined in with some of the cruisers and locals yesterday to play a game called Pickleball, which we had never heard of before.

Today we mainly took it easy, puttering about on some boat projects and getting some laundry done.  We also found time to just enjoy the beautiful day that we had here.

Tomorrow we'll be heading out to try to get through Whale Cay cut.  The weather forecast looks like it should be good to get through tomorrow, in which case we'll head over to Treasure Cay.  If not, our plan B location is to go and drop the anchor near another island called Manjack Cay.

Happy hour on the dock

Chickens and roosters roam everywhere

Dar playing her first game of Pickleball - she's much better at it than I am

  1. OMG, pickleball is an Alert thing, I have NEVER seen it outside of Alert. It was hugely popular up there in the 80 and 90's. Were some of the guys ex-291'ers?

I an think of worst places to extend for a week :-)
