There are many smaller Junkanoo parades held all over the Bahamas, but the two large ones are the Christmas Junkanoo in Nassau, and the New Years Day Junkanoo in Freeport.
We were really looking forward to seeing the Junkanoo on New Years Day, and we weren't disappointed. The floats and costumes were amazing, incredibly detailed and complex. Time after time our jaws dropped as these works of art passed by our vantage point. It was obvious that this was something that the participants really loved doing, both from the months of work it must have taken creating the costumes, and the hours of work involved in the parade itself.
Here's a sampling of pictures from the Junkanoo parade.
