The week with our daughter and son-in-law zoomed by, and before we were ready for it, it came to an end and they had to head home. We had a great time with them here, but it was sad to see them leave.
After New Years Eve and Junkanoo, we were ready for a quiet day, so we had a down day at the marina on Thursday, the 2nd. We puttered about in the kayak, did some exploring, and finished the evening with a nice dinner by the pool.

On Friday, the 3rd we decided to do some exploring in Freeport. One of the places I had read about and wanted to check out was the International Bazaar. Unfortunately this ended up being pretty disappointing, as the place looked like it had been pretty much abandoned, with very few of the shops still open. Still, we had a good time wandering around in Freeport, and even found ourselves at the spot where the Junkanoo was held.

On Saturday, we hired a local fishing charter,
Lil B Fishing, to take us out to do some fishing. Les, the owner, took us out in the waters south of Grand Bahama, and while it was a bit rough we had a great time. Over all we pulled in nearly two dozen fish, including many Grunts, some Porgies, Squirrel-Fish, a Snapper and a Trigger-Fish. Dar won the prizes for the first fish caught, the most fish caught, and also caught the largest, the Trigger-Fish. Les cleaned all of the fish for us, and when it was all said and done, we had enough fish to feed the four of us for three meals.

On Sunday, the 5th, we headed out to the Lucayan National Park. We poked about in the caves for a bit and then headed out on the nature trail that winds through the mangroves towards Gold Rock Beach. After exploring the park for a couple hours we headed back towards Freeport, stopping at the Banana Bay restaurant for lunch. After lunch we spent a couple hours exploring the nearby Fortune Beach.

Yesterday, Monday the 6th was, unfortunately, the departure day for our daughter and son-in-law. We decided to borrow the marina bicycles and go for a ride after lunch. Soon enough though it was time for us to say goodbye. It was tough saying goodbye but we knew we'd see them again in the spring when we returned to Canada. We even are discussing the possibility of the kids coming to visit us for the Easter weekend, where-ever we end up being by then.
The weather problems in Ontario and the northern US gave our daughter some problems. The flight out of Freeport to Toronto was delayed for over 3 hours, and then when it finally did make it in to Toronto it was so late that they missed their connecting flight to Ottawa. They ended up spending the night and all of today waiting for the situation to sort itself out, and it took until 2100 tonight before they were finally on their way to Ottawa.
As for us, we're here for a couple more days before we head out. If the weather is favourable on Thursday we'll be heading out and east along the southern coast of Grand Bahama Island, where we'll take the Grand Lucayan Waterway through the island to the Little Bahama Bank. From there we'll make our way to Great Sale Cay where we'll decide where we'll head to first in the Abacos.
