It's a good thing we have had lots of practice waiting for weather, because we are once again waiting on the weather to be more cooperative.
We were due to leave the marina on Thursday, but there was a small craft advisory in effect, with strong winds and rough seas, so we had to stay for an extra day. It wasn't a big surprise, as the weather has been unsettled for almost our whole stay.
Today conditions were supposed to be better, with seas of about two feet. Marginal, but we figured good enough to at least get to the Lucayan Waterway.
We got ready to leave at 1300, catching the rising tide so as to clear the sand bar at the marina inlet. We cleared the waves at the inlet and immediately discovered that the forecasted two foot seas were actually over four feet. We got slammed by the first few waves and quickly came to a unanimous decision that it would be a lovely day to return to the marina. A quick 180 and we soon found ourselves tied back up at the dock.
Looking at the forecast for the next few days, it's unclear when we'll get conditions suitable for the next leg of our travels. But, that being said, there are worse places to be stuck. We decided to patch our wounds with an afternoon at the pool.
