McDonald Island (2013-08-25)

N 44° 18.709', W 076° 10.407'

Our daughter Krista and her fiance Mark made it out for their visit.  I picked them up at the Gananoque free dock at around 1300 on Saturday.  One of our dock neighbours graciously loaned me his dinghy to make the trip (thanks Bill!).

We got them settled in and then we took them for a tour of the island, and introduced them to our dock neighbours.  By then it was time to get started on supper, and we sat down to a nice dinner of bbq pork and veggies with rice.

Dinner time
After supper we sat with some of the other boaters at the big fire pit near the docks and did a little marshmallow roasting.  After satiating our appetite for marshmallows we retired to the boat to watch a movie.

Today Dar and Krista took the kayak our for some sight seeing around the island, and then relaxed in the sun for a while.  We left the island at about 1530 to head back to Gananoque, did some shopping and then stopped to have some dinner.  By then it was closing in on 1900, so we reluctantly said our goodbyes and Krista and Mark headed out.

As it was getting late and there was a storm threatening, we decided to head back to McDonald Island to see if any of the docks were available.  As we expected, pretty much everyone had gone home, and with the exception of one other boat we had the island to ourselves.  We had been eyeing a spot on the dock furthest to the east, so we slid in there and tied up for the night.

Trying a new dock at McDonald

The weather is supposed to be crappy tomorrow, so we will probably stay here for another day as well.
