Glen Island (2013-08-06)

N 44° 03.356', W 077° 03.410'

While at Waupoos we had a chance meeting with some friends of ours from CPS, Jim and Cathie on M/V Holidaze, and found out that they were in the middle of a trip to circumnavigate Prince Edward County, and were travelling with three other boats.  Their adventures are being documented by Will and Joy aboard M/V Will N Joy.

We had considered tagging along with them as they headed out to continue westward towards Sandbanks, but our little flotilla decided to head back up into the Bay of Quinte to an anchorage near Glen Island.

After getting the boat prepped I decided to fill up our water tanks, and as the potable water faucet is located all the way up at the start of the dock I had to break out all of my hoses to reach.

The drinking water is a long way away...
I had a few funny looks and comments with the amount of hose I had laying on the dock, but Nick on M/V Corvette Conversion IV won the clever quip of the day award when he looked at all the hose and stated "That's the lengths we go to...". :-)

We got underway just before noon and things started to get rough shortly after clearing Waupoos Island.  I had checked the Environment Canada marine weather report before we left, and both the forecast and current buoy data stated that the worst we should have seen was 0.6 metres.  Well we got bounced around quite a lot out on Prince Edward Bay, and saw many waves well over a metre in height.  It took us an hour to clear around into the lee of Cressy Point, but it was a pretty rough hour on both the boat and crew.  We had stuff strewn all over the salon.  Luckily nothing broken, so it just took some tidying up.  Still, it would have been nice if the marine weather report had been a bit more accurate.  Had we known it was like that out on the lake we would have just moved to a sheltered anchorage in the area and waited it out.

The rest of the trip to Glen Island was smooth and uneventful.  We got into the Glen Island anchorage by 1445, and had the anchor down by 1505.  After doing some tidying up and then checking the anchor set it was time for a well earned happy hour.

A nice steak dinner followed by a couple more episodes of Dexter finished the evening off.

Now it's time to head out into the cockpit for a bit of star gazing before bed...
