M/V September Dream

Still at Lock 6

For those that might have been wondering where we ended up, we decided to take another day and stay at Lock 6.  The day dawned wet and windy, and didn't start to clear up until early in the afternoon, so that had a part in the decision.  The biggest part in the decision was tonight's overnight low of 3 Celsius.  It's nice having the shore power to run the electric heater in the salon so we don't have to chip ourselves out of bed in the morning. :-)

I took advantage of the stay to finish up the last bit of the wifi amp install.  I now have a Linksys router set up and running, and everything is wired in to the boat's 12V system.

I also wired in a higher current 12V circuit using some 12 gauge twin wire, and terminated it with 30 amp Anderson Powerpole connectors.  This way I can use the circuit to power my ham transceiver, or switch it out to use with some other higher current device, such as a midrange inverter.

I tested the new circuit with the IC-7000, by keying up the transceiver on CW at full power, and watching the current utilization on the Link 10 display.  At full power the transceiver was pulling down a little over 18 amps, without any of the connections letting out any of their precious magic smoke. :-)

The forecast for tomorrow looks promising, so barring any other reason we happen to come up with to stay put yet another day, we will be heading down the river.  Of course, that being said, all plans are always written in the sand at low tide... :-)
