Tonight finds us tied up at the lower dock of the Kingston Mills Lock. Back on the Rideau!
We ended up spending three days on Cedar Island. There was a sailboat at the west dock with us Tuesday night, and another at the northern dock, but other than that we had the island to ourselves.

The weather for the past few days has been okay. Warmish days which we took advantage of to walk around the island and say hi to the many deer that inhabit the island. We had rain each evening, and a pretty strong thunderstorm on Tuesday night.
This morning we decided it was time to relocate to the first lock in preparation for the opening of the Rideau Canal system. It was quite windy, with strong south winds, but we were quite well sheltered at the western dock. As soon as we left the lee of the island we found that the waters were quite rough, with waves of 2-3 feet or better. We had a rough ride over to the Kingston Bascule Bridge, and a bit of a bumpy time while we waited for the 0900 opening.
Once through the bridge the Cataraqui River was much calmer, and we worked our way north. We encountered a fire boat doing what looked like some water trials, but he graciously moved out of the channel to let us pass. This was likely a boat that had been built at the MetalCraft Marine, next to the Kingston Marina. It had "Alexandria Fire Department" written on the side of the boat, so that's where it will eventually end up.

The Rideau Canal system officially opens tomorrow, but the weather forecast is for heavy rain all day. If that ends up being the case we'll probably just stay put here for the day and continue our journey on Saturday.
Welcome home :-) Go for a swim in the Rideau yet? How's those temps compared to the Bahama's? Just got back from Bermuda so I can sympathize haha. Look forward to seeing you.
