Tonight finds us back at the Leeward Yacht Club on Green Turtle Cay.
We have had great weather for the past few days, so that made exploring Great Guana Cay that much more enjoyable.

Our first night at anchor in Fishers Bay we were the only trawler in the anchorage. Reinforcements showed up the next day to even things up a bit. :-)

When we came in to Fishers Bay I had spotted a wreck on the charts and made sure to stay clear of it. While swimming on Wednesday I was surprised to find a prop and prop shaft on the bottom near our boat. I quickly realized this was part of the charted wreck, so I went back to the boat to get the go-pro. Here's the video I took.
Granted, not much of a "ship wreck", but it was still a fun discovery for me. :-)
Yesterday we decided to take a long walk on the beach in front of Nippers. What an incredible beach.

The weather forecast for today ended up as predicted, with light winds and clear skies. We took this opportunity to head back through "The Whale" and re-entered the upper part of the Sea of Abaco.
Just as we were about to enter the old cruise ship channel at the top of Great Guana Cay, I noticed something in the water ahead of us. At first I thought it was a log or large piece of wood of some sort, but when I looked with the binoculars I realized it was a huge sea turtle swimming on the surface of the water. He dove under as we approached, but I did manage to get a couple pictures of him.

It's hard to describe just how spectacular the colour of the water is in the Sea of Abaco. Pictures come close, but really don't do the colours justice...

We enjoyed ourselves so much here on our first visit that we've decided to spend another week at Leeward and take some time to see more of Green Turtle Cay.
Great discovery. Weather looks fabulous. -6 but sunny in Ottawa today.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying your trip, videos and pics. Reliving my trip back in 1991 via sail through your site, especially through the Bahamas where we once had a place. Your remarks re Grand Bahama ring true.
