Hopetown (2014-02-01)

N26° 32.571', W76° 57.992'

Tonight we are anchored outside of Hopetown, with the iconic lighthouse looking over us.

Wednesday morning we went in to Marsh Harbour to do some shopping, as we had planned.

Very busy dinghy dock

Marsh Harbour's (only?) traffic light
We walked around a bit, checking out a few of the small businesses near the downtown.  We then noticed that the sky was starting to look a bit dark, so we decided to hustle over to Maxwells, the large grocery store in Marsh Harbour.  Well, it was raining lightly by the time we finished up in Maxwells.  We had a wet walk back to the dinghy, and a wet dinghy ride back to the mothership.  As is usually the case, the rain stopped just as we got back to the boat.  That didn't last for long though, as the skies opened up shortly afterwards, and rained hard for the rest of the day.

Dark clouds holding a lot of rain

Thursday we puttered about on the boat, and while the sky was dark with threatening looking clouds, it didn't rain in Marsh Harbour at all.

On Friday we decided to take one more day in Marsh Harbour, and went in for another walk about.  We also stopped by Maxwells and picked up a few more items.

Very cool trash bin

This morning we got the boat sorted and then went in to Marsh Harbour marina to fill some of our spare water jugs.  After that we had a quick lunch and then headed out on the 1 hour passage to Hopetown.

Hopetown lighthouse
We  dropped the anchor west of the harbour entrance.  There were two trawlers and a sailboat already anchored here.

Anchorage panorama
As we were dropping the anchor, we noticed the largest starfish that either of us had ever seen.  It had to be at least 12" across from point to point.  As I was diving to check the anchor I brought the go-pro camera with me to get some pictures of it.

Huge starfish
Tomorrow we'll dinghy in to Hopetown to do some sight-seeing.  This is another one of those bucket list spots for me. :-)
